Crossing Accident Information

March 26, 2004

Last night there was a crossing incident at Boone. Apparently there were no fatalities and to my knowledge no injuries.

There was, however, a problem that resulted from the incident. The conductor was, at least temporarily, placed under arrest.

The reason was due to his refusal to give the investigating officer any personal information. Road Foreman Dan Markley has asked that I inform you of what is required and what is not required.

  • You should not provide the officer with your driver's license.
  • You may provide him or her with your BNSF ID card.
  • You should provide your Name and date of birth.
  • You may provide them contact information if you choose to. If not, tell them that you can be contacted through the BNSF.
  • You should refer them to a company officer for any other necessary information.
  • It is recommended that you simply ask the investigating officer to please wait for your supervisor before you give anything more than what is spelled out above. One will be arriving soon. A company officer is always dispatched to the scene of an incident involving a member of the general public.
  • Above all, stay calm and be polite.
  • Do not raise your voice to the officer but tell them that you will be happy to cooperate with them when your supervisor arrives.

Hopefully this will avert any problems that might arise between you and law enforcement. If you have any questions you may contact either Dan Markley, Phil Howland or Allen Wolfe.

Sincerely,
Ray Young
